Visitation right of unmarried people, relatives and grandparents

Child custody and visitation disputes are not just reserved for divorced couples, but can involve unmarried couples, grandparents, and even other relatives as well. In each of these cases, a familiar bond to a child may provide the necessary grounds upon which a claim for either custody or visitation can be waged.

Can I make a claim for pain and suffering damages?

It doesn't matter if a plaintiff can receive a million dollars in personal injury compensation: Money is never a suitable exchange for one's health. However, financial compensation is the only way Maryland courts have of making things right after a negligent party hurts someone. As such, the questions of "How much money can I receive?" and "What kinds of damages can I claim?" are usually some of the most important ones on every plaintiff's mind.

What's a soft tissue injury?

Have you ever seen somebody walking around with white foam neck brace after a car accident? If the person said he had "whiplash," then he probably suffered what's called a "soft tissue" injury. A soft tissue injury can be any kind of problem that affects the soft parts of the body. These parts include tendons, muscles and ligaments.

Paying alimony? Be sure to keep records

As part of your upcoming divorce, you may end up making alimony payments to your ex-wife. The court might order you to continue making monthly payments until your ex is either capable of reasonably supporting herself or remarries. As with other transactions, it is important to keep records of the alimony payments you make. This is especially true if you and your spouse have a contentious divorce. There is always the possibility that your ex may choose to challenge the amount of alimony you are paying. Or, the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) may choose to look into the alimony expense you are claiming on your tax return.

Tragic drunk driving crash claims pedestrian's life

A man from Waldorf, Maryland, was arrested after a fatal pedestrian versus car accident late last month. The incident happened early on a Sunday morning after a 50-year-old driver allegedly hit a 23-year-old man who was walking across Coastal Highway in Ocean City.
