A 15-year-old pedestrian was killed in a car accident that happened in Hebron. According to police, the incident took place on Monday, Aug. 14, at approximately 9:30 p.m. along Route 50. Police say that their preliminary investigations reveal the teenage boy ran into the street, stumbled and got hit by a car. However, they have yet to issue a final report.
The injured boy was rushed to Peninsula Regional Medical Center after emergency responders arrived on scene. Doctors, however, were unable to save his life and he was later pronounced dead at the medical facility. Authorities do not suspect that the deceased boy or the driver were using drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.
The 42-year-old female driver in the accident had not been charged, but police continue to investigate what may have occurred. If the driver was speeding or did not have her headlights activated at the time of the collision, it could be that police fault her for the crash.
It’s important to note that when it comes to young pedestrians, police may choose to hold the driver to a higher degree of responsibility for the collision. This is because young pedestrians tend to act erratically and unpredictably, and drivers must take care to slow down and be cautious when young pedestrians are present on the road.
Maryland residents who have lost a son, daughter, wife or husband in a pedestrian versus car accident may want to investigate what occurred — even if police reports claim that the incident was the fault of the pedestrians.
