Lisa Marie Presley, the 48-year-old daughter of Elvis Presley, has filed for divorce from her husband of 10 years, musician Michael Lockwood. The couple had two children together, twin girls who are currently 7 years of age. Presley requested full custody of the girls in her divorce papers.

In addition to requesting full custody, Presley has also asked that 55-year-old Michael Lockwood’s visitation with their girls be monitored. According to sources, Presley is not interested in her husband’s money. The sources indicate that they have a postnuptial agreement on file, Presley does not want spousal support and she does not want child support. Presley cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for her divorce. As for further details about why the marriage is coming to a close, nothing is known.

Having been married three times before Lockwood, this will be Presley’s fourth divorce proceeding. However, her marriage with Lockwood has been her longest. Her first marriage to musician Danny Keough lasted six years. Her second marriage to Michael Jackson lasted two years, and her third marriage to Nicholas Cage lasted only three months.

These days, courts in Maryland generally prefer to award shared custody to divorcing parents. However, there can be circumstances that warrant a request for full custody. For example, if it can be shown that the mother or father has a dangerous addiction problem, has committed violent crimes or is unfit to be a parent for another legitimate reason, the courts may choose to grant full custody to the other parent. Before requesting full custody, however, parents may wish to discuss the matter with an experienced family law attorney.
