West Baltimore car crash claims life of 11-year-old girl

A tragic car accident claimed the life of an 11-year-old girl in West Baltimore last week. The crash happened on a Saturday afternoon, a short time after 4:30 p.m. According to police, the vehicle that was carrying the children as passengers lost control at a high rate of speed, crossed the double line and smashed head-on into a sport utility vehicle.

The force of the collision caused the young girl to be ejected from the car. Although emergency responders rushed her to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, she was later pronounced dead at the medical facility. In addition to the deceased 11-year-old girl, a 6-year-old boy, 9-year-old girl and another 11-year-old girl were critically injured. As of last reports, all three children were still in critical condition.

Police deemed that the sport-utility vehicle driver was not at fault for the crash. Instead, they blamed the driver of the vehicle that contained the children. Police say that the motorist was impaired by alcohol at the time the collision, and both speed and alcohol contributed to the crash. The driver was ultimately arrested and charged for the crash.

In addition to the deceased girl and the injured children, the car that struck the sport-utility vehicle also contained a 35-year-old man as a front seat passenger. This man was rushed to the hospital; however, he eventually left the hospital before being discharged.

Whenever a fatal accident happens in Maryland, and police determine that the accident was caused by an impaired or speeding driver, family members of the deceased victim may want to determine whether they can pursue wrongful death claims against the at-fault party. A successfully navigated wrongful death case could bring victims money to pay for end-of-life expenses, money to compensate for pain and suffering and other categories of damages.
