On Behalf of | Aug 31, 2018 | Firm News, Motor Vehicle Accident |

A recent motorcycle collision claimed the life of an 18-year-old man in Halethorpe. The incident, which happened on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, involved the young motorcyclist and a sport utility vehicle.

According to the Baltimore County Police department, police first received a report of the accident at approximately 2:25 p.m. in the afternoon on the day of the collision. Police rushed to the accident scene, where they discovered the young motorcyclist deceased from injuries he suffered when a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban struck him. The Suburban driver did not suffer any injuries as a result of the collision.

Tragically, this is the third motorcycle death to happen within a two-week period in Baltimore County. The previous accidents were as follows:

  • Aug. 17, 2018: A 48-year-old motorcyclist died after getting into a crash with a vehicle and being ejected from his bike.
  • Aug. 24, 2018: A 70-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with another motorcyclist on Interstate 95.

No one doubts the fact that riding a motorcycle is dangerous and results in numerous fatalities across the United States and in Maryland each year. In fact, a total of 76 motorcyclists died in Maryland in 2017, representing a significant percentage of the 557 total traffic-related deaths that year. Due to the inherent dangers of riding a motorcycle, all Maryland bikers are encouraged to use caution, don appropriate safety equipment and attend safety training sessions to improve their chances of surviving and/or avoiding a catastrophic accident.

If your close relative died in a serious motorcycle accident, you might want to learn about the laws that could apply to the pursuit of a potential wrongful death action in your case.
