You don’t have to take your traffic tickets on the chin

On Behalf of | Oct 21, 2016 | Firm News, Traffic Tickets |

It’s obvious to every American that you’re innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, but it’s very rare that Americans choose to defend themselves against traffic citations. This is usually because drivers have the false perception that it is exceedingly expensive to hire a lawyer to defend themselves against something as simple as a traffic violation. Most drivers assume that it will be cheaper to take the ticket on the chin, pay the fine and be done with it.

However, in many situations, this couldn’t be further from the truth. When considering the consequences of simply accepting a traffic ticket and paying the fine — which, by the way, is just like pleading guilty — Maryland drivers should remember that traffic ticket consequences can extend far beyond the initial fines. Indeed, traffic tickets can have long-term consequences by raising insurance premiums, and depending on one’s previous traffic ticket history, a driver might even lose his or her driving privileges due to too many traffic violations.

Sometimes, when fines for a high-level speeding ticket can be upwards of hundreds of dollars — or thousands of dollars — and a driver is in danger of increased insurance costs and too many points on his or her record, it is an excellent idea to assert some traffic ticket defense strategies in court.

At the Law Office of Kevin L. Beard, PA, we regularly help Maryland residents defend themselves against charges like DUI, speeding, reckless speeding, driving without a license and driving with a suspended license. At all times when defending our clients against traffic-related offenses, we strive to limit the chance and/or severity of punishments and other potential consequences associated with the allegations being brought against them.
