Are you being as safe as possible on the road?

You drive the speed limit, you never drive after drinking and you think of yourself as a "defensive driver." In other words, you find your health and safety – and the safety of others – far more important than getting from A to B a few minutes faster. However, you might not be doing everything you can to stay safe, so it's important to stay up-to-date on all the best safety practices on a regular basis.

Here are two great ways that you can be safer on the road. Are you doing them?

Don't linger in the fast lane

The fast lane, or left lane of traffic, is for passing slower vehicles. Every time you enter it, you're increasing your risk of getting into a crash. The lane-changing process is far less safe than staying put. Also, when you're in the left lane, you will not have the shoulder that is usually present on the right side of the road, and this could give you fewer options for taking evasive action.

Scan the road ahead for obstacles

By keeping your eyes ahead of you at the point you'll be 10 seconds in the future – or even further ahead – you will have more time to react to obstacles that you encounter. Yes, pay attention to everything in your immediate vicinity, but make a habit of scanning ahead as well.

Following a serious auto collision that results in injuries, victims may want to investigate whether they can pursue a personal injury claim. Before initiating such a lawsuit, be sure to learn about how your case might be viewed and decided by a court of law.
