Are you doing your part to prevent distracted driving?

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration is doing everything it can to keep Americans safe from distracted driving. The problem is, it's only getting worse. As people throughout the United States -- and throughout the rest of the world -- become more addicted to their smartphones, it becomes harder and harder for them to put them away while they're behind the wheel. This has many safety experts blaming the recent spike in automobile-related deaths on the rising popularity of digital devices.

Terminating the parental rights of a deadbeat parent

There are a variety of reasons why you might want to terminate the parental rights of the other parent of your child -- especially if he or she is a deadbeat. Maybe you want to move to another state for a job opportunity or a better life, but the other parent won't give permission. Maybe you want your new husband or wife to adopt your child and the other parent protests. Finally, maybe you want to protect your children from a potentially dangerous mother or father.

Will my ex take the Volvo or the Porsche?

When it comes to divvying up possessions, assets, investments and money in a divorce, spouses generally have a lot of questions to ask their attorneys. Most want to know how much they're going to be able to keep and how much they're going to be able to give up. Some are interested in learning as much as they can about their legal rights so they can arrive at the fairest possible divorce settlement, while others want to try and keep as much of the marital estate as possible.

Single parents: Establish sound rules for communication

Good communication is vital after two parents with shared custody go through a divorce. For this reason, parents should specify certain agreements about communication in their parenting plans. Here are some important issues to address in this regard:

When seat belts hurt drivers and passengers

There's no doubt about it: Wearing a seat belt is the best thing you and your passengers can do for your safety while riding in an automobile. According to statistics from 2014, seat belts saved an estimated 13,000 lives. Experts note that these safety devices are especially helpful during a high speed auto collision because they prevent ejection and blunt force trauma.

Consider this when setting up your holiday parenting schedule

When two parents live so far away from each other that it renders child custody visits impossible. If the parents live on opposite sides of the country, one way around this problem could involve using holidays and three-day weekends as times when the children can visit with the noncustodial parent. Many parents organize long-distance holiday schedules in circumstances like this.
